Habitat Homes

Protect Habitat. Create a Lasting Legacy.

Every native species needs a place to call home.

Habitat Homes is a simple and meaningful way for individuals, businesses, and community groups to invest directly in the protection and restoration of Australia's precious natural habitats. Your support doesn't just fund conservation today. It helps secure environmental outcomes for generations to come.

How It Works?

Habitat Homes combine immediate conservation action with long-term stewardship.

Immediate Conservation Impact

A portion of every Habitat Home contribution is invested immediately into on-ground conservation activities that deliver environmental benefits in the near term. These activities may include:

  • Revegetation and habitat restoration
  • Protective fencing
  • Weed control
  • Pest animal management
  • Threatened species habitat enhancement

These actions help improve biodiversity outcomes from the very beginning.

Long-Term Stewardship

The remaining funds are invested in a dedicated stewardship fund and released progressively over a 25-year period.

This ensures important conservation work continues well beyond the initial investment and helps maintain and improve habitat quality over time.

Interest generated from the long-term stewardship is also used to contribute to buying more habitat and/or additional costs related to conservation activities associated with the property.

Creating Lasting Conservation Outcomes

Every Habitat Home project is guided by science, monitored independently, and built around measurable environmental outcomes.

Independent Assessment

Sites are assessed by Victorian Government-accredited Habitat Hectare Assessors using recognised biodiversity assessment methods, including:

  • Habitat condition assessments
  • Biodiversity surveys
  • Geo-referenced monitoring plots

This establishes a baseline condition for each site and provides a framework for measuring improvement.

Science-Based Management

Following assessment, a detailed ecological management plan is developed. The plan outlines the actions required to improve habitat condition and biodiversity values over time. Progress is independently verified through periodic reassessments.

Permanent Protection

All Habitat Home sites must have, or be progressing toward, long-term legal protection through mechanisms such as conservation covenants or other recognised forms of permanent protection.

A Home for Wildlife. A Legacy for Future Generations.

When you invest in a Habitat Home, you’re doing more than supporting a conservation project. You’re helping create thriving habitat, protecting biodiversity, supporting Traditional Owners, and ensuring environmental stewardship continues long into the future.

Give nature a home today.

Transparency and Accountability

We believe conservation investments should be transparent and accountable.

  • Stewardship funds are held within a dedicated interest-earning fund.
  • Biodiversity units are retired for 25 years once allocated and cannot be resold.
  • Site ownership and project information are transparently recorded through independent mapping systems.
  • Progress is regularly reviewed through independent ecological assessments.

If a project no longer meets ecological improvement requirements, or receives funding beyond what is required, funds may be redirected to other approved conservation projects to ensure your investment continues delivering environmental outcomes.

Supporting Traditional Owners

A percentage of every Habitat Home contribution is allocated to Traditional Owner partners to self-determine and support On-Country projects and strengthen cultural and environmental outcomes across the landscape.

Every Dollar Works for Nature

Catchment is a not-for-profit conservation organisation. 100% of funds received are applied directly to conservation projects, with organisational operating costs supported separately through volunteer expertise and other donations. Your contribution directly supports tangible environmental outcomes on the ground.

For Community and Not-for-Profit Organisations

The Habitat Homes platform is also available at no cost to eligible not-for-profit organisations working in highly threatened landscapes. In these cases, 100% of funds received are passed directly to approved conservation projects. Applications are open for eligible groups.
